Nikšić (Montenegro) European Capital of Culture 2030

"To be an Open City. It's a simple idea. At first, we think we know what it means: being friendly to neighbours, loving to our children, welcoming to visitors. But the implications of openness are far more radical when it means being critical of oneself, greeting the stranger as a teacher, facing the seismic changes required in our relationship with the environment and the economy, and even reconfiguring our understanding of sovereignty as we approach EU membership".

In the mid of October 2025, Nikšić was awarded the title European Capital of Culture 2030.

I was honoured and delighted to work with this tireless and brilliant team on the bid as their consultant for the Cultural Programme and Outreach. It was a thrilling year working with artists and cultural organisations from across the country and Europe on curating the winning programme.

Wishing the team, all the artists from Montenegro and across the whole of Europe, all the very best for the years of implementation. Nikšić 2030 Evropska prestonica kulture!
